What is emergency contraception?

Emergency contraception is effective in preventing pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of sexual intercourse where there is a risk of pregnancy.
It is believed to prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, preventing fertilization, or blocking the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus.

* Taking this medication does not guarantee complete prevention of pregnancy.
* This medication is intended to prevent pregnancy following unprotected sex or sex where contraception failed; taking it before sex will not prevent pregnancy.

About the Products We Sell

Kyorindo Pharmacy carries “NORLEVO®” and “LESOERU® 72”.
Both are over-the-counter (OTC) medications containing the same active ingredient and dosage (1.5 mg of levonorgestrel) as their prescription counterparts.

Important Notes

• You must take the medication in the presence of a pharmacist* at the time of purchase.
• Only the woman who will be taking the medication may purchase it. Men cannot purchase it.
• Consent from a partner or parent is not required for purchase. There are also no age restrictions.

Purchase and Administration Process

1. Check in advance whether you are eligible to purchase emergency contraception at the store​

There are conditions for purchasing and taking emergency contraception.
To ensure a smooth purchase, we recommend using the self-check tools before visiting the store.
If the self-check indicates you cannot purchase it at the store, please visit a medical facility.

2. Find a Store That Carries Emergency Contraception

Please check for participating stores using the “Store Locator”.

3. Verification by a Pharmacist*

A pharmacist* will verify whether you are eligible to take emergency contraception based on the pre-use verification checklist.
If you do not meet the criteria, you cannot purchase it at the store; please consult a medical facility.

4. Taking the Pill in the Presence of a Pharmacist (Take It on the Spot)

If you are deemed eligible, you will purchase one tablet and take it in the presence of a pharmacist*.
You cannot take it home or give it to someone else.

5. Confirming Pregnancy Status

The effectiveness of emergency contraception is not immediately apparent after taking it.
Please confirm your pregnancy status three weeks after taking the medication by using a pregnancy test or visiting a medical facility.
If the pregnancy test result is positive, please visit a medical facility as soon as possible.
